The Story:

A major police operation is currently underway in the Calders area of Edinburgh after a knife-wielding man injured two people on Tuesday morning. Armed officers and specialized ambulance teams rushed to the scene at approximately 8:25 AM following reports of a man armed with two blood-stained bladed weapons.

The two victims have been transported to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh for urgent treatment. Meanwhile, the suspect is believed to be contained inside an 11th-floor apartment at Cobbinshaw House, a 13-storey tower block in the area. Police Scotland has reassured the public that there is no wider risk and that the event is not being treated as terror-related.

A Dramatic Confrontation Eyewitness reports paint a chaotic scene outside a local shop shortly after the incident began. One local resident, who wished to remain anonymous, described being approached by the suspect. Recognizing the danger, a bystander quickly handed the resident a spirit level, which he used to physically confront the attacker and herd him away from a nearby school.

"He started going towards the school, so I was just trying to chase him back," the local man stated. "He handed me the spirit level and we just started going for it." The suspect subsequently retreated into the multi-storey flats. Footage circulating on social media shows the man later appearing at the window of his 11th-floor flat, looking down at the growing crowds and police presence below.

Community on Lockdown The fallout from the incident has brought the west Edinburgh community to a standstill. At least six police vehicles, armed response units, and paramedics in body armor have secured the perimeter around Cobbinshaw House.

For safety, the City of Edinburgh Council has placed all nearby schools and council buildings on strict lockdown. Lothian Buses has also diverted its number 20 service away from the active scene. Authorities are advising residents to stay clear of the area as specialized firearms officers continue their inquiries and work to safely resolve the standoff.
