Massive 15-Vehicle Crash Closes M73 Motorway Overnight: 5 Hospitalized Including 2 Children


A severe 15-vehicle collision caused a major shutdown on the M73 motorway late Sunday night, resulting in five people being taken to local hospitals, including two children.

What Happened on the M73? Shortly before 11:30 PM on Sunday, March 15th, emergency services were dispatched to a massive multi-vehicle road traffic collision (RTC) on the northbound carriageway of the M73. The sheer scale of the 15-vehicle pileup forced authorities to completely close the road between the J2 Baillieston Interchange and the J2A Gartcosh Interchange.

Emergency Response and Injuries A major rescue operation was quickly mounted. The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) deployed three fire appliances alongside a heavy rescue unit to manage the wreckage.

According to the Scottish Ambulance Service, a total of eight people required medical attention:

  • Two patients were rushed to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital.

  • Two children were transported to the Royal Hospital for Children.

  • One patient was taken to Glasgow Royal Infirmary.

  • Three additional individuals were treated by paramedics at the scene and released.

Is the Road Open Now? Yes. Amey SW Trunk Roads and local police worked through the night to recover the 15 vehicles and clear the extensive debris. Traffic Scotland confirmed that the northbound M73 was fully cleared and reopened just before 4:00 AM on Monday.
