Tragedy in Eryri: Tributes to Norfolk Friends Found on Yr Wyddfa

The hiking community and the families of two young men from Norfolk are in mourning following a tragic discovery in the North Wales mountains. Jayden Long, 19, and Eddie Hill, 20, have been named as the two hikers found dead in the Eryri (Snowdonia) mountain range.

A Community in Mourning The pair were discovered on Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon) on Thursday after a massive multi-agency search operation. Concerns for their welfare were first raised on Wednesday, leading to an extensive search involving mountain rescue teams, search dogs, and a coastguard helicopter in severe winter conditions.

"Doing Something They Loved" Heartfelt tributes have since flooded social media from those who knew the "best friends." Jayden’s younger sister, Jodie, described him as an "amazing, kind, and caring big brother" who lost his life pursuing his passion for the outdoors. His aunt, Stephanie Jolly, shared her heartbreak, noting that Jayden was "just figuring out life" and following his dreams when tragedy struck.

The loss has been equally felt by the family of Eddie Hill. His brother, Harry, spoke of a "big, beautiful" brother who had "big plans for his future." He added that words could not describe the pain currently being felt by their family and friends.

The Rescue Effort North Wales Police confirmed that the bodies have been formally identified. Jurgen Dissmann, chair of the Llanberis Mountain Rescue Team, extended his condolences, noting that volunteers worked long hours through the night in "difficult weather" in an attempt to reach the pair.

The tragedy serves as a somber reminder of the dangers of trekking during the winter months, even for those passionate about the hills.
